OLIVE OIL AND THE CHAPEL PRESS
Chapel or screw press is the classic par excellence. Still today is used in the artisan wine task. Its use for the obtaining of olive oil came from the beginning of the Christian ages until the end of the VXIII century in which the joist and hundredweight imposes.
Its mechanism is simple. A screw of wood or iron of rapid and thick screw (malus) through a thick table where the locknut has been carved, descending vertically on the baskets thanks to the turn that a few men give to the axis of the screw.
In spite of demanding a great effort to make them to work, the output in the obtained pressure was small.
