Olive oil helps to reduce cholesterol El aceite oliva ayuda a reducir el colesterol

olive oil and cholesterol

Cholesterol is a soft and fatty substance that comes from two sources: from our own body and from the food that we ingest. The cholesterol that circulates in the blood is called serum cholesterol. The cholesterol that comes from food is called dietary cholesterol. To funcion normally, the body requires cholesterol and the liver produces all that is necessary.

If there is an excess of serum cholesterol in the blood it increases the probability of the fat accumulating in the arteries. This in turn elevates the risk of heart disease, heart attacks and strokes. High cholesterol doesn't give any warning signs, but it is very dangerous. For this reason, it is important to have your cholesterol levels checked regularly.

A level of serum cholesterol under 200 is desirable. A level between the range of 200 and 239 is considered a high cholesterol limit. When blood total cholesterol is found in this range (200-239), the risk of having a heart attack is elevated. A figure of 240 or more is considered high blood cholesterol, which elevates the risk and probability of suffering from a heart attack even more.

HDL cholesterol is called 'good cholesterol'. It can help to remove additional fat and cholesterol from the blood and carries it back to the liver to be eliminated from the body. This reduces the accumulation of fat in the arteries. High levels of HDL cholesterol are associated with a lower risk of heart attacks.HDL cholesterol Los niveles altos de colesterol HDL están asociados a un riesgo menor de ataques al corazón. Low HDL cholesterol is an increased risk of heart disease and stroke. LDL cholesterol is the 'bad cholesterol', to have too much of this type of cholesterol in your blood increases the risk of the accumulation of fat in the arteries which can cause blockages. These, in turn, increases the risk of heart attacks and strokes.

Olive oil has many healthy properties

Olives and its juice, olive oil, is very beneficial for health because it increases levels of HDL

Olive oil is very beneficial for health as it increases the percentage of HDL cholesterol. It should be noted that all oils have a high proportion of unsaturated (or 'good') fats, which means that at room temperature they are found in liquid state. Oils as well as containing different percentages of fatty acids or different types of fats they also contain vitamin E, lecithin etc.

A great part of the importance of consuming vegetable fats, especially olive oil, is owed to the fact that they are the only or most important source of certain fats that are indispensable for our body: those called unsaturated fats. The higher your rate of consumption, the more beneficial it will be to our health. Olive oil has a lowering effect on blood cholesterol levels and therefore it has an anti-arteriosclerosis effect, ie, olive oil is cardio-protective. The best way to consume an olive oil is raw as it maintains all of its properties.

Olive oil is the most suitable for athlete's diet. It is the base oil in the Mediterranean diet. It helps with the emptying of the gallbladder. It is also used as an ointment for burns. The regular consumption of this oil is linked to the increase of so-called "good " cholesterol and to a decrease in the risk of heart disease. It is best suited for the diets of athletes, as it has a lowering effect on blood cholesterol levels.

Olive oil prevents high levels of cholesterol

Olive oil is very beneficial for health, it helps reduce cholesterol significantly

Virgin olive oil is the juice from the olive, therefore it retains all of the flavour and nutritious properties of the olive fruit. It is the oil most rich in olearic acid, it is therefore a monounsaturated fat, with very beneficial effect on cholesterol, lowering the rates of LDL (bad cholesterol) and increasing HDL (good cholesterol) rates.
